Someone asked me (Eric) the question, "Why do you support Israel?". I gave a quick answer but wanted to give a fuller answer in our small group. The slide deck at the bottom of this page is the response that I gave in our small group.
The person who was asking the question was concerned that I supported a country that may be oppressing and/or harming the Palestinian people. While we discussed this at length in out group there isn't a lot of representation in the slide deck. Please note that my support of Israel isn't saying that I don't care about the Palestinian people. They are also loved by God and made in His image. As such they deserved to be treated with dignity and respect.
I believe that a unified country of Israel is their best path to a diverse and prosperous people living in harmony. A two-state solution seems to be recipe for continued and permanent hostility while a unified Palestinian state would lead to the oppression, displacement, and destruction of the current Jewish population. When you take a real look at the lives of non-Jewish residents in Israeli controlled territory it looks far superior to those non-Muslim (and Muslim) residents living and Palestinian controlled areas.
I know that this is a very emotional topic for many people. I know that many would vehemently disagree with me and I can respect that. The information here is my perspective and if you see where I have made an error please send me an email at eric@OYWV.org.
